Purpose
of Building Codes
The
purpose of building codes are to provide minimum standards to
safeguard life, health, property and public welfare by
regulating and controlling the design, construction, quality of
materials, use and occupancy, location and maintenance of all
buildings, structures and certain equipment within the city
limits of Carlisle.
If
you are planning a building project, you should contact the City
Hall for information pertaining to building codes, permits as
well as the availability and cost for electrical, water and
sewer services. Failure to do so can result in a project
incurring unexpected costs.
Do
I Need a Permit?
Some
routine or small projects, not involving footings or electrical
wiring, may not require a permit. Examples are sidewalk
and driveway paving and some sheds depending on their size.
It
is important that you check first and comply with all applicable
building codes and permits.
